The Role:


As a member of the Project Delivery Extended leadership team, your purpose is to lead a small team of Project & Construction Managers and contractors to deliver a Capital programme across all three of our UK airports, encompassing key areas of our business including Terminals; Airfield and Infrastructure with a forecast capital investment FY22 far exceeding £100m. Due to the Group wide nature of our projects, travel between East Midlands Airport and Manchester Airport will be required.


Typical duties include:


  • Provide H&S Leadership in support of projects across the Capital Plan, with particular focus on CDM compliance.
  • Accountable for delivery of projects and own Programme of works across group with clear focus on Cost, Schedule and Quality.
  • Ensure appropriate resource is allocated to projects within the Programme portfolio.
  • Plan, prioritise, and manage multiple projects, ensuring delivery as per the business requirements.
  • Support yearly business planning cycle for your Programme of works and provide further support to emerging business needs on an ad hoc basis.
  • Accountable for ensuring your Programme of projects are undertaken with minimal acceptable disruption to Airport operations.
  • Engage, Develop & Maintain a collaborative relationship with Senior Operational Leaders within own programme of works.
  • Drive value and efficiency in your programme of work through identifying programme efficiencies (bundling, group procurement etc)
  • Accountable for achieving in year Capex expenditure for your programme of works.
  • Select, lead, direct, evaluate, and develop a team of project managers to ensure that projects are completed on-time, within budget and according to project specifications.
  • Conduct performance management and annual colleague appraisals for line managed individuals.
  • Ensure Resource levels for your Programme of works to ensure continuous in year delivery.




You will be a seasoned Programme Manager, with a successful track record of owning and delivering major capital projects. You may either be a proven leader with a demonstrable ability to get the very best from your team or potentially a Senior Project Manager looking for the next step in you career. What is crucial is that you exude the required level of gravitas needed to successful support and influence senior level Stakeholders and the experience to deliver complex multi-function/ site programmes against tight time frames and to legal requirements.


Candidates who have a good combination of the following will be of particular interest:


  • University Degree and Chartered Engineer/Survey/Project Professional Status preferred.
  • Must have APMP PPQ or equivalent project management qualification.
  • Professional Body membership desirable – RICS/CIOB/ICE etc.
  • Experience in Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) or equivalent programme management qualification.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills; able to engage and communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and to effectively manage conflicting stakeholder demands.
  • Experience leading on managing 3rd party approvals (eg Planning, Property, Legal).
  • Proven commercial acumen – ability to contribute to building and presenting a credible CAPEX business case.
  • Team leadership, delivery through others, influencing without direct control.
  • Project development from explore through to handover.
  • Greenfield and brownfield project delivery in mature assets
