The Role

 

The Engineering Duty Manager role at Stansted Airport, reporting to the Head of Engineering Operations, ensures that all M & E Equipment and systems operate effectively, to enable the delivery of a high quality, reliable service to passengers, tenants and other internal/external stakeholders. Responsibilities are focused on Terminal Operations, Airfield Ground Lighting, Track Transit System, Baggage system and the general Airport site Infrastructure.

 

The role involves the direct line management of 5 Shift Terminal Technicians and the matrix management of a further 7 skilled shift technicians, carrying out a range of statutory Inspections, testing, planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and minor Installation work.

 

Whilst on shift, the Engineering Duty Manager (Shift) will take the lead in responding to all engineering faults. They will have responsibility and direct management of all engineering functions that require external contractor involvement and thereby includes having the ability to review Risk Assessments and Method Statements associated with emergency and planned works.

 

The Engineering Duty Manager (Shift) will attend daily shift meetings with all Stansted operational teams and deliver solutions and updates on any outstanding engineering faults which may impact the Airport operation and welfare of passengers and stakeholders.

 

This role operates on a 12 hour shift basis, working 2 days, 2 nights with 4 days off.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Providing expert engineering management and leadership to the Stansted airport operation.
  • Co-ordination, management and monitoring of all engineering operations including maintenance, repair and betterment work, overseeing employees and 3rd party engineering activities.
  • Lead engineering response to airport incidents and contingencies.
  • Successful delivery of planned maintenance including all mandatory and statutory requirements plus timely and high-quality response to faults to ensure assets are in full working order to meet business needs.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement and operational excellence in maintenance delivery and defect rectification and driving operational efficiency.
  • Carry out works inspections and audits for both in–house works and contractors.
  • Lead, motivate, performance manage, coach and develop employees across the assets function.
  • Ensure a safe working environment is provided for engineering activities.
  • Fire responder and Authorised Person (AP) for the LV electrical infrastructure, confined space and hot works.
  • Out of hours responsibility for all engineering decisions across the Airport.

 

You:

 

  • A strong leader with people management experience, you’ll also have key technical knowledge and understanding from your experience working as an engineer.
  • Professional qualification in Engineering is desirable (HND, degree or equivalent).
  • Ideally working towards Chartered Engineer status or with relevant equivalent experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrable success at applying continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, 6 Sigma and Kaizen.
  • Experience of working within a regulated environment and/or heavy industry is beneficial.
  • Commercially focused, understand budgeting and cost control principles.
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to stimulate and manage change.
  • Excellent communication skills including report writing.
  • Knowledge and experience in operating under safe systems of work such as Electrical Safety Rules and Confined space working.
  • Sound understanding of the statutory requirements under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Experience in working with a CMMS such as Maximo.
