MAG is the UK’s largest airport group. MAG is on a data revolution, where we are using cutting edge cloud-based technologies and techniques to ingest and transform our data into rich insight, thus enabling us to carry out critical business decisioning.  One of the key strategic mechanisms to enable this is through growing our Business Intelligence and Data Science practice.

The role:

This role is to lead our Data & Analytics platform using multi-platform data technologies, to build a world-class data platform for the Group.  Using the latest data technologies to help us drive innovation and shape how we use data in airport management to make better operational decisions.  In this role you will be a key enabler for MAG’s strategy and ambitious growth plans, as well as being central to supporting our vision to be the premier airport management and services company.


Duties include (but are not limited to):


  • Develop how Business Intelligence is used within the group, focusing on creating solutions that enable the business to self-serve their business intelligence needs
  • Develop a Data & Analytics platform, utilising the latest cloud technology that meets the growing needs of our business, including Data Lakes, Data Warehousing and Real-Time analytics technologies
  • Develop MAGs data models within the Data & Analytics team, ensuring we have the right level of governance and controls in place, including standardisation of Data Lake and Data Warehousing technologies
  • Develop a clear strategy to build, develop and maintain the cutting-edge real-time data streaming for analytics purposes, to support our growing data analyst and data science capability
  • Support the Business Intelligence development, analysis and data science functions within MAG and provide assurance and guidance for the Lead’s in decision making
  • Ensure we have a clear set of best practices for all things business intelligence, and ensure we have standards and governance in place across the business intelligence framework
  • Support and agree the implementation of controls and governance across all business intelligence related systems in alignment with Lead BI Developer, Service Team, Architecture, and other functions requirements;
  • Create and maintain a framework for successful delivery of business intelligence solutions using the latest in agile delivery techniques
  • Set the strategy on how to implement Business Intelligence capabilities within MAG
  • Be the evangelist within MAG IT on Business Intelligence solutions to improve the operation of MAG, working with the wider Group to promote the Data Strategy and Vision along with the art of the possible
  • Leading and supporting all members of the team as we build up the Data & Analytics function





Crucially, for this role, we require you to be a proven manager of data related teams. You will be knowledgeable and have solid previous experience delivering a modern data analytics/ digital platform for Data Science Teams on a public cloud e.g. Azure. GCP, AWS.

  • Experience managing data related teams
  • Cloud hosting experience
  • Managing experience delivery teams against multi million pound portfolio’s
  • Experience in a business intelligence building out data and analytics platforms, especially in data lakes, data warehousing and real-time analytics (AWS, Azure)
  • Experience with real time and batch data integration.
  • Extensive experience utilising visualisation business intelligence tools e.g. PowerBI/ Tableau etc.
  • Significant exposure to different BI technology, and understanding of key principles of BI development
  • Significant exposure to requirements gathering and interpretation, with proven ability to understand complex business ideas, and deliver the desired solution proving incremental ROI to the organisation
  • Extensive experience building and delivering data technology strategies
  • Extensive experience of delivering frameworks, such as operating models, and delivery methodologies into new and expanding functions
  • Experience of implementing Agile methodologies in traditionally Waterfall environments, including the new techniques in DevOps for data
