MAG is the country’s largest airport group. We own Manchester, Stansted and East Midlands Airports, as well as our MAG USA business based out of Chicago. Our HR department is the heart and soul of the business; critical in driving organisational strategy and the support of over 5000 colleagues across the business within group support functions and airport operations.



Position Details:

The purpose of this role is develop and implement fit for purpose Reward strategies, policies and services aligned to the MAG People strategy allowing MAG to operate efficiently, prepare for future growth and become a high-performance customer focussed organisation. This role will allow you to contribute (alongside the People Leadership Team) to the design and implementation of the MAG People Strategy aligned to the Corporate Strategy.


Principal Accountabilities include (but are not limited to):


  •  To shape (together with People LT) the group-wide People Strategy supporting the overall corporate strategy
  • To develop and implement reward and recognition strategies aligned to the corporate strategy
  • To propose to Executive Remuneration Committee plans for all aspects of senior leadership team (SLT)
  • To set pay strategy for negotiation with the trade unions
  • To develop and implement cost effective and sustainable pension arrangements
  • Lead and develop the reward and pensions team within MAG.
  • Lead on MAG’s approach to Job Evaluation and ensure governance frameworks and training delivers a consistent approach
  • Drive incremental and transformational change in MAGs approach to Reward
  • To lead MAG’s workforce planning
  • To lead People Analytics to deliver insights based on people data and propose solutions. 
  • To lead MAG’s approach to Absence Management, ensuring appropriate support mechanisms are in place to support colleagues whilst reducing absence related costs.
  • Designing and implementing appropriate recognition schemes that drive high performance and support delivery of the People strategy.
  • Manage financial budgets and targets, providing accurate and timely information on expenditure



Candidates with experience in some or all of the following areas will be highly regarded:


  • Degree level (or equivalent) educational background
  • CIPD qualified
  • Significant experience in a specialist reward function of a similar sized organsiation
  • Experience and knowledge of remuneration practices
  • Understanding of pension regulation and the ability to deploy this understanding to manage the company’s interests in the various pension trusts.
  • Experienced negotiator with trade unions with experience of delivering large scale change programmes.
  • A track record of outstanding functional leadership, growing high performing teams.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence at senior level
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to explain complex issues clearly and concisely.
  • Highly numerate/very strong analytic skills
  • Very strong people skills.
  • Customer orientated.
  • Demonstrate resilience and ability to lead through ambiguity.
