Roster Information:

You will work an average of 40 hours per week – Annualised Hours Contract. 


We offer a permanent annualised hours contract which means you are paid for 40 Hours per week. However, at peak times you may be required to work additional hours or at quieter times you may be required to work less than 40 hours a week - This does not affect your salary which is paid consistently at 40 hours per week despite the hours you may work.


You will need to be flexible to work on a 24/7 operation which will include night shifts, early mornings (Earliest start time from 03:00am) weekends and bank holidays.


About the role:


As our business is growing, and our passenger numbers are increasing we are looking for experienced People Managers to join our busy Security Team at Manchester Airport.

You will manage the effectiveness and performance of Security colleagues, equipment and resources to ensure that the services provided to the traveling public, customers and staff meet or exceed the specified service standards and comply with all legislative requirements.


Successful candidates will go through an extensive security training course; therefore, it is not essential to have security/aviation management experience.


The role of a Security Team Manager is varied.  Duties will include but not limited to:


  • To manage the day-to-day Terminals security operation, ensuring the compliant and efficient movement of passengers and staff though search areas, and adherence to Manchester Airport operating and security protocols.
  • Managing the daily resource plan, ensuring breaks are allocated and colleagues are rotated regularly and fairly through daily duties.  
  • Regular engagement and communication with colleagues, including daily briefs and team updates.
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection and training of security staff and ensure they receive comprehensive, ongoing training and development to enable them to undertake their duties and responsibilities in a professional manner to the standards required by the Company.
  • Lead, motivate, support and coach colleagues by setting the right personal example in the way duties are performed.
  • Monitor the standards of compliance and behaviours by Aviation Security Officers against protocols, and identify colleague performance standards, both good and bad.
  • Provide specific and timely feedback to colleagues regarding all aspects of performance, taking responsibility for monitoring and recording Security Officer’s performance, in line with current targets.
  • Assist with all aspects of compliance audits, including regulatory test programmes. Respond to security breaches, incidents, and emergencies, taking any necessary corrective action, and following agreed reporting lines.
  • Act as first line representative of security management outside of normal working hours to deliver a complete, professional, and compliant operation. Deputise for the Security Duty Manager (SDM) when they are not available, such as during emergency and contingency operations.
  • Provide regular tactical feedback to allow improvements and/or efficiencies to be made to resource planning.
  • Plan ahead and anticipate tactical shortfalls in resourcing and take proactive and corrective action. Input into strategic resource planning as required by the Security Duty Manager.
  • Conduct and apply the full disciplinary, capability, absence management, and grievance procedures, maintaining stable and positive industrial relations.


About you:


  • To be successful in this role, you will need to have proven experience of leading and managing large teams in a service delivery environment. Other skills we are looking for include:
  • People management skills, including the ability to inspire others to contribute their best.
  • Prior experience of performance management including disciplinary issues, capability, absence management and conducting colleague achievement reviews.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to give clear direction and constructive feedback, develop two-way communication and deliver difficult messages in a sensitive and a tactful way.
  • Good level of analytical skills and the ability to effectively forward plan, to ensure we consistently deliver exceptional service to all guests.
  • Communicate in a way that instils pride and bring an air of enthusiasm that encourages attention to detail resulting in a job well done.
  • First class customer service skills – able to demonstrate experience of building effective, lasting professional relationships with customers.
  • Investigatory and report writing skills, able to decipher a sequence of events or circumstances and report on any findings.
  • Experience of dealing with HR issues to include performance, grievances and disciplinary
  • Perfect colour vision.

If you’re successful you will be made a conditional offer subject to Pre-Employment checks and passing your initial 4 week training course which is a maximum of 4 weeks paid accordingly.


Our checks include: A Criminal Record Check, 5 years employment history and Counter Terrorism Check. You will also be required to attend a face to face medical appointment.
