The role
In addition to the accountability & responsibilities of an ATCO, Deputy Watch Managers are :-
Responsible for Deputising for the ATC Watch Manager in their absence or when requested. On these occasions, they shall assume the responsibilities of the ATC Watch Manager as below:
Responsible for managing the day to day operation of the Watch. This shall include managing the available staff to ensure that the relevant roles within the operational environment are sufficiently staffed to ensure safe operation and minimum delays to EMA Stakeholders.
Responsible for preparing an ATCO seating plan which will ensure that Controllers attend work for, and are rostered for, a sufficient number of shifts each month to enable them to comply with the Unit ATC procedures for maintaining operational currency.
Responsible for liaising with other Airport Departments to ensure that any required works or access to the airfield are accommodated giving due regard to keeping delays to a minimum.
Responsible for ensuring that the Occurrence reporting procedures as detailed in the MATS part 2 and EU376 are adhered to and that initial investigations are completed within the required timeframe. They are also responsible for ensuring that where an investigation is required, the incident is drawn to the attention of the Lead Investigator.
Deputy Watch Managers are jointly responsible for ensuring that all ATCOs on the Watch remain competent and current in their role and able to fulfil their duties.
Responsible for managing any training requirement on the Watch and ensuring that all OJTIs remain current in that role.
Responsible for managing ATCA competency and currency on the Watch and ensuring that the Refresher Training requirements are met.
Jointly responsible for the Health and Safety of all colleagues and visitors within the department.
What will make you successful in the role?
Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an ATCO
Previous ATC Management experience is preferable
Must demonstrate a high standard of ATC skills including operational competence and decision making and problem solving
The ability to perform and communicate well under pressure
The ability to engender a harmonious working relationship with diverse individuals
The ability to interact with various departments within EMA and MAG as and when necessary
