As an Aviation Security officer, you’ll be joining the largest department in the airport and playing one of the most important roles. You will be responsible for ensuring that all our passengers are safe and have the best possible start to their trip or holiday.

East Midlands Airport (EMA) is two businesses in one: a low-cost passenger airport, and home to the UK’s largest express air cargo operation.  

Served by airlines Ryanair, Jet2, TUI, easyJet and Aurigny, the passenger operation caters well for travellers who want a quick and easy escape to popular domestic and overseas leisure destinations in mainland Europe, Eastern Europe, and Northeast Africa.

Each year, over 440,000 tonnes of goods pass through the airport as the logistics operators on site facilitate global trade with key markets in Latin America, Asia, North America, and the Middle East.

About the role:


Typical duties include.


  • checking staff ID cards and passenger boarding cards before entering the security area.
  • carrying out hand searches of anyone who enters security
  • operating high-tech equipment such as x-rays and observing screens.
  • patrolling all areas of the airport including the airport and on-site operators
  • providing excellent security and customer service to all users of the airport terminal, gatehouses, and cargo operations  


About you: 


No prior security experience is required as we offer full training. You will need to be able to:


  • communicate directly and clearly to both colleagues and passengers
  • Must be over the age of 18
  • always demonstrate exceptional customer service
  • be enthusiastic, pro-active and have an excellent attention to detail 
  • be able to work both individually and as part of a team
  • multitask


You will also need to have

  • perfect colour vision 
  • lived continually in the UK for the last 3 years to be able to obtain Counter Terrorism Clearance. 


Please note the role will require long periods of standing, bending, walking and manual handling


If you’re successful, you will be made a conditional offer subject to Pre-Employment checks and passing your initial 3-week training course which is a maximum of 3 weeks paid accordingly.


Our checks include: A Criminal Record Check, 5 years employment history and Counter Terrorism Check. You will also be required to attend a face-to-face medical appointment.


Due to the nature of our security checks. we are unable to consider any applications from candidates who have not lived in the UK for the last 3 years.


The contract:


You will be consistently paid for 21 hours per week (payable monthly), however, in our busier months you will be required to work full time hours, with a decrease in working hours in the winter months.


  • Full time shift lengths are from 4 hours to 12 hours, variety of early shifts, day shifts along with some night shift working.
