In this role, you will work closely with the Group Biodiversity Manager and Airport Environmental Managers to support the implementation of biodiversity plans that preserve and enhance biodiversity across the airport and its associated projects. You will play a key part in putting the biodiversity management strategy into practice at site level, ensuring it aligns with the company’s wider environmental objectives. A core aspect of the role includes conducting second-line audits on biodiversity-related activities and projects, ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.

Collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders will be essential, supporting engagement with local communities, conservation organisations, government bodies, and other key partners to promote and implement biodiversity initiatives effectively. You will contribute to a holistic approach to ecological management across sites, assist in reviewing ecological impacts and proposals related to capital projects, and oversee the work of specialist sub-contractors. The role also involves co-ordinating ecological and natural capital monitoring, supporting assurance auditing to meet legal obligations, and helping integrate natural assets into the MAXIMO asset management system. Additionally, you will contribute to developing appropriate maintenance regimes and help create and deliver initiatives aimed at securing funding for biodiversity management and enhancement works.

About you:

We are looking for someone of degree calibre with hands-on experience in onsite ecology management and a solid understanding of quality assurance for ecological data and biodiversity metrics, including UKHab, GRESB, DEFRA BNG Metrics, and TNFD. You should be confident working with sub-contractors to ensure optimal delivery standards and demonstrate a proven track record in managing small to medium-sized projects from conception through to successful delivery. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be expected to convey complex ecological information clearly to operational teams at a local airport. Proficiency in IT is important, particularly in Excel (including VBA), and while experience with GIS and field ecology work would be advantageous, they are not essential. A full British driving licence is required due to the need to travel across the airport site. Membership of a relevant professional body such as CIEEM or CIWEM is also expected.
