Air Traffic Control- Operations Manager
Permanent Role based at East Midlands Airport
The Role
As the Air Traffic Control Operations Manager, reporting into the Head of Air Traffic Services, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the ATC unit at East Midlands Airport, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of aerodrome and airspace services in line with CAA regulations and local procedures.
You will provide leadership, guidance, and support to Watch Managers and operational staff, overseeing performance, staff development, and the maintenance of operational standards. You will coordinate operational activities, manage resources, respond to incidents, and ensure systems and infrastructure are fit for purpose, working closely with engineering and technical teams. You will also deliver local projects and operational changes, such as procedural updates, change management, or infrastructure improvements, ensuring staff are trained and prepared.
What will make you successful in the role?
- Understanding of CAA regulations, EU Regulation 2015/340, CAP 670, and ICAO standards, with the ability to apply them effectively.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate operational teams under high-pressure in highly regulated safety-critical conditions.
- Ability to inspire, motivate, and guide Watch Managers and operational staff, creating a high-performing, professional, and safety-focused culture.
- Commitment to safety, SMS principles, and fostering a Just Culture within the team.
- Ability to make timely, risk-based decisions during high pressured situations, operational disruptions, and periods of significant change.
- Ability to engage with the CAA, airport operations, engineering teams, airlines, and internal stakeholders effectively.
- Skilled in coaching, providing structured feedback, and developing staff to maintain high operational and professional standards.
- Ability to plan and implement operational changes while maintaining compliance, staff readiness, and smooth integration.
- Ability to adapt to changing operational demands and maintain focus during high-stakes or abnormal situations.
Technical Qualifications
- Extensive experience in a highly regulated function (Air Traffic/Aerodrome)
- In-depth knowledge of regulation with the ability to interpret and adapt regulations to local operational requirements.
- Evidence of leadership or management training relevant to operational and safety-critical environments is required.
- Competent in documentation, data management, and change management
