Founded in Manchester more than 85 years ago, we have grown to become a FTSE-50-sized company and the largest private investor in transport infrastructure outside London. Seventy percent of the population lives within two hours of our airports, and last financial year we served 65m passengers. Sustainability is one of our core values, and it shapes everything we do. We're committed to protecting the environment and supporting our local communities. Our programmes include airport and airline decarbonisation, comprehensive education, skills and employment support and community engagement initiatives including volunteering opportunities. At MAG, we recognise creating a first-class journey for our customers starts by creating a first-class career journey for our colleagues and we are committed to building inclusive environments in which our people can thrive. You’ll also have access to some great benefits including:

· Free parking
· Subsidised public transport

The Role
This is a key hire in supporting MAG’s research, advocacy and engagement with government ministers, civil servants and MPs. You’ll play a leading role in tracking and responding to policy risks, legislative and regulatory changes that affect our airports. You will work with colleagues and subject matter experts (SMEs) across the business to produce credible policy positions to government. You’ll draft reports, consultation responses and represent MAG’s views to external stakeholders at meetings and events. You’ll oversee a library of resources and policy positions to be used as a centre of excellence in guiding our airport teams. You’ll be expected to analyse and respond to a range of complex topics, from tax and regulatory policy to skills and decarbonisation.
What will make you successful?
You’ll have at least 4-5 years of experience formulating complex policy positions and be comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy. This background could be in-house industry experience, trade association, think tank or from a political party. You’ll have a knowledge of UK public policy, ideally transport or aviation but this isn’t essential. You’ll have a BA or BSc Hons in subjects such as politics, economics or public policy. A Master’s degree would be advantageous and relevant degree apprenticeships would also be considered. A background in economics and/or quantitative data analysis, and experience of providing data-driven insights would be helpful. You’ll have a strong understanding of Parliamentary process and a good knowledge of the workings of government in order to weigh policy risk to the business. You’ll also be adept at building relationships internally and having the confidence to work with SMEs to respond to a range of topics.

Whether this is your first role or your next big step, we want to hear from you – even if you don’t think you tick every box. What matters most is what you bring.
