Why MAG?

MAG is the owner and operator of Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports as well as the digital travel services business, CAVU.  Founded in Manchester more than 85 years ago, we have grown to become a FTSE-50-sized company and the largest private investor in transport infrastructure outside London.  Seventy percent of the population lives within two hours of one of our airports, and last financial year we served 65m passengers.
Sustainability is one of our core values and it shapes everything we do. We're committed to protecting the environment and supporting our local communities.  Our programmes include airport and airline decarbonisation, comprehensive education, skills and employment support and community engagement initiatives including volunteering. At MAG, we recognise creating a first-class journey for our customers starts by creating a first-class career journey for our colleagues and we are committed to building inclusive environments in which our people can thrive. You’ll also have access to some great benefits including:

•    Bonus scheme
•    10% company contribution pension
•    25 days holiday plus bank holidays
•    Free parking / subsidised public transport
•    Huge range of company discounts
•    2 volunteering days per year
•    Free Virtual GP service, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
•    Care Concierge service

The role

You’ll be an advocate for MAG and engage with government ministers, civil servants, MPs and wider stakeholders. You’ll drive high-quality campaigns that promote MAG’s commercial priorities and policy positions. Your goal is to help us build our influence as a major infrastructure provider and the largest airports group in the country. You’ll be based in London with some trips to MAG’s airports and you’ll represent MAG on industry forums.

This is a very exciting role at a time of growth for the business. You‘ll be given the opportunity to work across a range of topics from decarbonization to skills, tax and infrastructure policy.

What will make you successful in the role?

A track record of securing policy wins is needed. You’ll possess a strong grasp of policy and work with the Head of Policy & Public Affairs and the Group Policy Manager to formulate responses to complex issues. You’ll be able to demonstrate the personal impact you’ve had in successful campaigns and influencing activity. You’ll have around 7 years or more of experience working in public affairs, ideally in a corporate environment, where you may have gained an understanding of politics and Parliamentary procedure from a stint at a political party, in an MP’s office, agency or in-house role. You’ll have knowledge of UK public policy, ideally transport or aviation but this isn’t essential. You’re likely to have a BA or BSc Hons in subjects such as politics, economics or public policy. Other qualifications and relevant degree apprenticeships would also be considered. You’ll have leadership and presentation skills and be comfortable advising and supporting senior business leaders in a range of high-pressure external and internal settings.
