Monday to Friday 0730 – 1530
Salary – Band 9 – £27,311 rising to £30,241 after 3 months successful probationary period. Plus responsibility allowance of £5,292 p.a. (all with effect from 1 October 2025).

The role
London Stansted Airport are seeking a Grounds Maintenance Operative to carry out landscape maintenance, whilst observing best horticultural practice.
You will ensure the green estate around the Airport is cared for, by following scheduled maintenance programmes. You will also ensure all machinery used in the maintenance of the green estate is kept in a safe condition and you’ll liaise with the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor where required.
Principal Accountabilities
- To work as part of a team, proactively ensuring that the Airport landscape is maintained within regulatory, safety, quality and performance standards.
- Ensure that all plant and equipment is maintained in a safe operational condition. Identify any faults and report to the appropriate person(s) for action
- Safe operation of machinery, always wearing the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Winter maintenance activities which include weekend and night work on overtime. This will be on a shift rotation
- Maintenance tasks as part of the grounds schedule. Ensure all reactive work is acted upon and completed in line with any service level agreements and customer requirements
- Be responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety, safe working practices and legislation.
What will make you successful in the role?
- Professional qualification in Amenity Horticulture/Landscape Maintenance/Arboriculture or suitable, relevant experience (please show this on CV / covering letter)
- Pa1/Pa6 safe use of pesticides certification (desirable)
- CS30 &CS31 chainsaw units (desirable)
- Experience in tractor driving
- Full UK driving licence, preferably with trailer towing experience
- Punctual, with strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
