About the role

 

As the Head of Facilities Management, you will lead a team of 160 colleagues and have responsibility for a £7m operational and capital expenditure budget, to deliver all aspects of hard and soft services at London Stansted Airport. You will establish and implement delivery plans for all services that are both efficient and effective, with suitable processes and procedures in place for the delivery team to ensure the safety, comfort and cleanliness for the 28-30 million passengers travelling through the Airport.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have experience of working in a role that has managed both hard and soft services on a large estate or campus, working with big plant equipment. You will be innovative, used to delivering change and have the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally. You will have strong leadership and people management skills and set the standards for behaviours and performance required of your team.

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Lead a team of circa 160 to self-deliver all aspects of soft and hard services operations to support a 28-30 million passenger airport. Ensuring that the Airport is clean and that waste away supports both the cleaning operation and third-party operators.
  • Lead the Building Services team to develop service delivery plans for hard services including HVAC, water services, plumbing, building fabric etc, utilizing technology to improve and innovate and ensuring operational performance, compliance and ongoing efficiencies.
  • Create and communicate a strong vision for the department which delivers high performance standards and customer service.
  • Ensures that people, processes and systems are continuously reviewed and updated to ensure that regulatory and service KPIs are met and that more efficient working practices are adopted.
  • Plan, supply and/or co-ordinate major and key operational activities and/or services in an efficient and timely manner to support efficient airport operations.
  • Manage external contractors, o complete allocated maintenance and minor capital improvement programmes to maintain/improve our assets.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of emergency plans and procedures to ensure the maximum safeguarding of life and to minimise the impact of emergency situations, and to reduce the risk in terms of business continuity eg management of Life Safety Systems including fire detection, suppression, compartmentation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships to influence key policy decisions with external partners. Attend national working groups run by external parties to influence delivery policy.
  • Formulating partnerships with leading industry suppliers to develop innovative approaches to service delivery to improve efficiency of working methods.
  • Interpreting trend analysis data to development “needs statements” (part of the capex procedure) for asset updates/renewals.
  • Interpreting trend analysis data from MAG’s Maximo system to embed more efficient working practices within the operational teams
  • Build relationships with other internal departments, such as Customer Services to influence future service requirements.
  • Manage quality assurance reviews of activities/work undertaken and investigate any asset failures to determine cause and take remedial action, including internal process reviews etc and manufacturers design issues.

 

 

 

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Professional qualification in Facilities Management/Electrical/Mechanical/Building Services – Minimum HNC
  • Extensive experience within an Engineering or FM management environment (Facilities Management, Engineering management, mechanical/electrical systems design, construction and/or maintenance, or closely related field)
  • Proven ability to manage Opex and Capex budgets
  • Proven ability to manage FM management teams
  • Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding and translation of MAG’s vision, ability to effectively communicate the vision
  • Influencing and negotiating skills to motivate multidisciplinary networks to work towards a common goal delivering a world class Engineering and FM delivery model
  • The potential to stimulate and manage change
  • Good communication skills to be able to present a case briefly and logically and to influence Senior Leadership Team
