The role
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Structured Cabling and Fibre Optics Technician to join our team at Manchester Airport. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, installing, terminating, and testing various types of cabling, including structured cabling and optical fibre systems. You will ensure that all containment and patching requirements meet the high service standards set by Manchester Airport and our Installation Manager.
Your duties will involve meticulous planning and execution of installations for both single-mode and multi-mode optical fibre cabling, as well as voice multi-core cabling. You will maintain accurate records of completed installations, providing detailed plans and job sheets upon request. A key aspect of this role will be providing a fault diagnostic service on copper and optical fibre data equipment, ensuring prompt action on repairs during both core and non-core hours.
In addition, you will manage adds, moves, and changes on live systems, maintaining service level agreements while keeping all stakeholders informed of progress. You will also conduct surveys to support capacity planning and auditing efforts. Periodic inspections will be carried out to verify that installation standards are upheld and that data communication rooms are kept clean.
You will undertake project work as assigned by the Installation Manager and participate in technical, health and safety, and airport operational training to enhance your competencies. It is essential that all activities are conducted in alignment with relevant procedures, standards, behaviours, and performance targets.
What will make you successful in the role?
We are looking for a highly skilled Structured Cabling and Fibre Optics Technician. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrable previous experience and an in-depth knowledge of structured wiring and backbone cabling, including both copper and fibre systems. Your expertise will span from the planning stages through installation, testing, patching, and fault finding.
To qualify for this position, you should hold a CSCS or ESC Card in Datacomms, along with the City & Guilds 3667-02 Level 2 Award in Communications Cabling for both Copper and Fibre Optic Cabling in an Internal Environment. Additionally, you should have achieved IPAF and PASMA accreditation, as well as completed OTDR and FLUKE testing training. A full understanding of network and telephony connections, including fault rectification, is essential.
Experience with CommScope cabling sub-systems is preferred but not essential. If you are a motivated individual with a strong background in cabling and a commitment to excellence, we encourage you to apply and become part of our team at Manchester Airport.
