The Role
This role is a critical position in ensuring the efficient, safe and proactive oversight of critical water systems at the airport. Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on airport water systems.
- Ensure reliable operation of water infrastructure to support customer experience.
- Maintain and optimise assets including drainage, foul water, spill containment, and environmental controls.
- Conduct regular inspections, water quality sampling, and seasonal system checks.
- Lead site coordination for third-party water infrastructure works and surveys.
- Record maintenance activities accurately using internal systems.
- Use control systems to manage drainage and environmental compliance.
- Support system upgrades and capital planning with engineering teams.
- Collaborate with water specialists and asset managers on strategic improvements.
- Deliver training to team members and promote knowledge sharing.
- Operate water systems efficiently in partnership with energy and utilities teams.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards.
- Promote a proactive health, safety, and environmental culture.
- Contribute to audits, risk reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Take personal responsibility for safety and environmental impact.
What will make you successful in the role?
In order to fully succeed within this role, you will posses the following:
- Proven ability to carry out first-line maintenance, inspections, and repairs to a high standard
- Experience and knowledge of Airport water systems of similar size to Stansted Airport’s would be desirable
- It is essential that the post holder has experience of working in a similar capacity on a large commercial / industrial site where a similar range of multidiscipline engineering asset maintenance is undertaken
- Experience of water pumping station operations including submersible pumps, valve sets, control and monitoring systems, penstocks and containment lagoons.
- Ability to conduct sampling and surveys of water distribution and drainage networks.
- A good level of understanding of SCADA control systems
- Good communication skills
- Highly motivated individual able to work under their own initiative at times.
