The role

 

Provide People leadership to establish the STN Change & Integration function and integrated STN operating model, translating the emerging design and priority transformation programmes into a practical people plan. Working with the People Director, Change & Integration Director and Major Programme Delivery Director, the role will lead organisation design, workforce planning, change, capability, employee relations and engagement, while ensuring sustainable handover into business as usual.

 

Accountabilities


Develop and deliver a six-month People and Organisation Effectiveness Plan aligned to STN and Group priorities.
Lead organisation design, governance, workforce planning, capability and ways of working for the integrated STN model.
Own the people agenda for priority transformation programmes, including APOC, embedding people impacts, risks and dependencies into delivery plans.
Lead organisational change activity, including implementation, consultation, communications, employee relations and workforce transition.
Act as a trusted adviser to programme leaders and senior stakeholders, balancing pace, affordability, colleague impact and sustainable delivery.
Lead workforce and capability planning, identifying future skills, capacity and leadership requirements and securing appropriate People support.
Build effective Trade Union relationships and lead consultation on transformation activity.
Provide oversight and direction to the Interim People Advisor, Change & Integration.
Coordinate activity across STN People teams, Centres of Excellence and People Services to ensure aligned delivery and effective transition into BAU.
Establish governance, reporting and measures for the people workstream and complete a structured handover at the end of the assignment.

 

What will make you successful in the role?

 

•    Graduate calibre with significant post-qualification experience operating in a complex, operational or unionised environment.
•    Full CIPD accreditation or equivalent senior-level professional experience.
•    Proven experience of leading complex transformation, operating model implementation, restructures, workforce transition and cultural change in a unionised environment.
•    Demonstrable ability to translate an evolving strategic concept rapidly into clear organisation structures, accountabilities, workforce plans, implementation roadmaps and sustainable ways of working.
•    Strong and current knowledge of UK employment law, collective consultation requirements and employee relations practice.
•    Broad expertise across the People remit, with particular depth in organisation design and effectiveness, workforce planning, capability, performance, engagement, talent and leadership development.

•    Ability to influence, coach and appropriately challenge executive and senior leaders, building credibility quickly as a strategic advisor while maintaining clear functional governance.
•    Experience of building constructive relationships with Trade Unions and leading consultation on complex organisational change.
•    Highly developed stakeholder and programme leadership skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, competing priorities and fast-paced operational demands.
•    Strong analytical capability, using people, workforce and programme data to inform decisions, identify risk and measure delivery. 
•    Resilient, pragmatic and outcomes-focused, with the confidence to operate autonomously, create clarity and deliver defined outcomes within a time-limited assignment.
