Job Purpose

 

Core to our growth strategy is major expansion both in terms of products and services within CAVU. The Technology strategy will play a major part in this as we look to build out a single platform, capable of supporting global scale.

 

The Head of Technology role has responsibility for one or more significant platforms.  Reporting into the Technology Director, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team of architects, infrastructure, software, and test engineers to deliver world leading digital products and drive standards and best practice across your teams.  You will have responsibility from ideation to operational support and your activities will range from day-to-day leadership of the team, to setting future technology and architectural strategies for your platforms.  You will establish and maintain strong relationships with Architects, Product Owners, other internal business stakeholders, other technology teams and your key strategic partners.

 

You will used to working in a lean, fast paced environment and will have a focus and passion for delivering amazing new experiences to customers.

 

This role will suit someone who understands how aligning technology with business needs, along with exploring and implementing emerging technology trends and best practice, can help deliver rapid business growth results.

 

Principal Accountabilities

 

  • Work with the Technology Director to develop and deliver the technology roadmap that will provide commercially viable business capabilities and business growth.
  • Lead the day-to-day software design, agile development, automated testing, and automated release of highly available and highly scalable commercial products.
  • Map business requirements to technology solutions to deliver high quality, customer focused solutions.
  • Ensure consistency of approach across Architecture and Engineering across all teams, solving problems once as a business and spinning out best practice across teams.
  • Support CAVU in achieving compliance obligations and objectives.
  • Promote a ‘Secure First’ culture, shifting security responsibilities left into development teams.
  • Delivery of Security and Engineering standards across all teams, providing transparency to the business by means of agreed Tech reporting and KPI’s.
  • Driving adoption of ever-increasing amounts of Automation, service isolation and Testability to enable greater throughput of teams.
  • Report regularly on Quality, Throughput and Performance Metrics aligned to our commercial goals.
  • Ensure that legacy systems are appropriately governed and are phased out naturally within product development.
  • As a senior member of the CAVU Technology team you will be expected to lead by example, instilling a can-do attitude within the team whilst also building strong relationships with key stakeholders from across the business.
  • Maintain operational excellence in the form of clean code, clean deployments and 24x7 delivery of service against agreed business SLAs.
  • Responsible for coaching and mentoring the engineering teams.
  • Grow the talent pool through key hires and smart sourcing strategies, along with supporting early talent and diversity initiatives.
  • Personally stay relevant through effective networking, learning and knowledge sharing across Business and IT.
  • Regular performance reviews and setting of objectives to align people with business goals.
  • Responsible for coaching and mentoring your Technology team.

 

Decision-Making

 

  • Prioritisation of supply / demand challenges from multiple business stakeholders ranging from major programmes through to small change and service fixes.
  • Help select, then manage and review the performance of our tech partners and suppliers
  • Define and implement the development and QA standards, processes, and tools
  • Grow the technical talent pool through key hires and smart sourcing strategies

 

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

 

  • Industry experience in delivering customer facing solutions across mobile / web / ecommerce platforms
  • Experience of hiring & managing teams of Web & Software Developers + QA
  • Knowledge of CRM, Customer Insight & Customer marketing tools
  • Strong commercial acumen, can understand and act on the company vision and strategic goals
  • Keeps abreast of market and industry developments
  • A rounded experience of SDLC methods with strong focus on Agile (Scrum, Kanban, XP)
  • Confident and credible when working with senior execs
  • Able to transfer effective methods and or ideas seen elsewhere to enhance own work environment
  • Shows resilience in the face of setbacks and looks for new ways to meet challenges
  • Has a personal positive impact on colleagues across the wider team & organisation
  • Professional level – degree or qualified by experience
