About the role: 

 

  • Supporting  and deputising for the Health Safety Business Partner with implementation / management of MAG priorities. 
  •  Providing managers and colleagues with comprehensive end-to-end advice and support to ensure the effective implementation of Safety Management Systems. 
  • Ensuring stakeholders understand and are compliant with MAG standards including around safe working, safe places and equipment and welfare arrangements.
  • Developing an in-depth understanding of airport operations, including operational challenges, changes, stakeholder relationships, safety cultures and colleagues’ attitude to H&S. Management of H&S risks, supporting the delivery and adoption of Manchester’s safety management system 
  • Supporting with the development and delivery of Safety Improvement Plans (SIP).
  • Supporting the development and delivery of H&S communications across business areas, including annual safety campaigns and associated events.
  • Responsible for supporting change management programmes – advising managers and supporting with all aspects of implementing change. Ensuring all system actions are completed following the change.

What will make you successful in this role: 

 

The successful candidate will have the ability to provide advice and guidance on low-risk incidents but is required to escalate any foreseen risks or exposure to MAG to the H&S Business Partners and/or Head of Health Safety & Fire Safety. This role acts in consultation with H&S Business Partners and achieves success through the ability to influence others, namely managers and colleagues, including trade union colleagues at all levels of the organisation. The role also involves developing a best practice working environment across the Group, supporting the investigation of safety-related incidents and contractor safety incidents to identify root cause factors, and supporting the production of quality reports with conclusions and recommendations. The role also leads and monitors the implementation of remedial actions.
 

About You


You will have achieved a  minimum of National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent). Good H&S experience (preferably 5 years), gained ideally as an adviser in a 24/7, fast paced operational environment with a solid understanding of the culture, challenges and constraints. 
Have experience in providing compliance related H&S expertise, advice & assurance. A good understanding of auditing techniques and practice.
Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (at a relevant level). Ideally, you'll also have: Holding (or working towards) National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent)
