The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Manchester Airports Safety Department as a Safety Advisor reporting to the Safety Business Partner covering maternity leave on a 12-month fixed term contract. 

 

The successful candidate will devise and deliver safety improvement actions and initiatives and contribute to the effective delivery of the annual safety strategy.  Carry out assurance activities to ensure compliance with standards and continuous improvement, including identifying and enabling delivery of recommendations.  

 

To grow maturity and enhance the business safety performance and culture. 

 

Duties will include:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of all Health and Safety policies and procedures to ensure accurate advice is provided.
  • Offer clear, correct, and consistent guidance to line managers to interpret regulatory requirements and integrate them into business planning, covering areas such as incident management and investigations, risk assessment, specialist safety assessments, inspection and monitoring, L1 assurance plans, and corrective action management.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to enhance Line Managers understanding of policies, procedures, and H&S legislation as needed.
  • Support incident investigations to identify root causes and ensure appropriate remedial actions are implemented and tracked to completion, escalating risks to the H&S Business Partner as necessary.
  • Monitor and oversee departmental Health and Safety Training plans, ensuring they are developed, and compliance is tracked through local forums.
  • Participate in and support departmental consultative forums, such as Health and Safety Local Forums.
  • Provide technical health and safety support for projects to ensure regulatory standards are met.
  • Support and deputise for the Health Safety Business Partner in the implementation and management of MAG priorities.
  • Assist with change management programs, ensuring all system actions are completed following the change.
  • Develop and monitor leading and lagging HSE performance indicators for departments, interpret data, and implement improvements based on findings.
  • Contribute to and, when appropriate, conduct HSE audits and inspections, compiling reports and recommendations


What will make you successful in the role?

The successful candidate will have Health and Safety experience, preferably dealing with complex and high hazard environments, experience of H&S Incident management, incident investigation, risk assessment and knowledge of up-to-date health and safety law. A NEBOSH general certificate is essential, along with strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the business and experience of analysing information and to determine effective solutions. You’ll also have a high level of computer literacy and be self-motivated with a passion for health and safety and the ability to prioritise and manage demands.
