About the role:


You will proactively ensure that Manchester Airport`s building fabric facilities remain operational within specified safety, legislative, quality, environmental and performance standards, and targets


Ensuring the airport buildings are maintained to a high standard providing an excellent service to customers and service partners across the site


Undertaking planned and reactive maintenance work on airport infrastructure as directed by your line manager and as detailed in the engineering matrix of competencies, to ensure optimum availability / serviceability of assets which meets agreed service levels and provides a trouble-free operational environment for our customer


You will be part of a quick response reactive team carrying out planned, predictive and preventive maintenance and other duties as directed by your line manager


In the event of failures prioritise works to respond within specified target times (SLA’s)



Principal Accountabilities:


  • Maximise personal capabilities to achieve minimum disruption and downtime in line with service level agreements and other performance standards.  Ensuring that Asset Support Team, Line Management, Customers and Service Partners are kept informed throughout


  • Utilise MAG’s Maximo system to accurately record all activities for both planned and reactive tasks. Provide clear and concise feedback on the performance of MAG’s Maximo system


  • Responsibility for safeguarding of good engineering / building practices across site


  • Achieve and maintain competence and knowledge required of the job through a positive attitude in team working, training, reading publications such as trade journals, maintenance manuals and internal policies and procedures.  Advise line managers where further training or information is necessary to meet the requirements of the job


  • Highly motivated, can work as part of a team or work alone and is able to take on the training necessary to carry out the role


  • Any other duties contributing to the component need of the asset and engineering function


  • Ensure that critical equipment failures are effectively communicated to Line Management and other key stakeholders


  • Work proactively to ensure that any failures to critical Airport Operational Services are mitigated as quickly and effectively as possible to minimise impacts on customers



Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a Joinery / Building Fabric related discipline with a minimum of 3 years’ experience
  • Working knowledge of building fabric maintenance systems.
  • It is essential that the post holder has a background within a building fabric maintenance environment and has experience of working in a similar capacity on a large commercial / industrial site where a similar range of multidiscipline building skills are undertaken, experience of working on the following is desirable:


  • Installation and repair of all types of doors and door furniture
  • Glazing
  • Maintenance of modular ceiling systems
  • Ceramic tiling & grouting
  • Electronic door closures & release systems
  • Security Maglocks
  • Electrical fire-door floor spring closures
  • Vinyl floor repairs
  • Minor plumbing repairs
  • Diagnosing blockages of gutters / downspouts / water leaks
  • Fabrication of metal / plastic security gates
  • Repairs to roofing systems ( single ply membrane )
  • Installation & repairs of security digital locks
  • Use of scaffolding and Access Platforms
  • Repairs to road signs
  • Installation & repairs of perimeter fencing of all types
  • Flagging / pathway repairs
  • Building fabric inspection and corrective repairs
  • Working within the Health & Safety regulations, working with Risk Assessments and Method Statements
  • Full UK Driving License is required for this role
