The Role:

 

In this role you will be a key senior leader of the Capital Delivery team, managing the Planning team and working directly with the Project Management teams to create and maintain projects’ schedules & analyse progress reported against the work schedules.

 

You will be responsible for overseeing all schedules within MAG’s Capital Plan, supporting several projects simultaneously to a cumulative value of circa £120m per annum. You will have sole accountability for the Planning team and providing data for the Head of Project Delivery, Project Managers and Programme Managers, whilst engaging the Project Delivery team to ensure robust schedule capture & analysis, by providing real time data aligned with the business Project Delivery System (PDS).

 

Principle Accountabilities will include:

 

  • Provide –overall view of Capital Plan health, status & variance analysis at any given point within each financial year.
  • Provide near term (12 month look ahead, month by month) capital projects schedule forecasts for the Capital Delivery Director, MAG Finance & the Head of Capital Programme.
  • Provide up to date medium term forecast of capital projects schedules for capital programme Outturn.
  • Provide longer term project and programme information to inform and update long term business plans.
  • Manage the development, planning and control of the overall Capital Expenditure plan schedules for MAG covering one-year, and develop the five-year and ten-year business plans.
  • Work in conjunction with the MAG Supply Chain team and Strategic Programme Management supplier to develop capital expenditure efficiencies from standardisation and work bundling opportunities.
  • Assist the Project Controls Manager in Earned Value Analysis (EVA) by tracking programme performance metrics against multiple baselines.
  • Provide the necessary programme information which underpins cash flow analysis & projections for Finance & Treasury.
  • Report on project closure status, ensuring all PDS-driven disciplines are complete in full.
  • Establishing & maintaining multiple project & programme baselines throughout the duration of the Capital Plan.
  • Manage the business re-forecasts process for 2+10, 5+7, 7+5 & 10+2, ensuring the correct schedule linked to cash phasing are in place to match the current business position.
  • Provide status analysis for both mid-year & financial year end for inclusion in the Capital Delivery teams Colleague Achievement Review Objectives.
  • Key into the process of Risk & Opportunity within the Capital Plan to inform/influence the business on possible changes to the plan.
  • Assist the business in the process of dispute resolution at a project & programme level through detailed schedule analysis & performance.
  • Analyse & be able to provide a department resource profile.

 

You:

 

We require a skilled Senior Planner, who has knowledge and experience of managing and working with the latest industry scheduling, profile & cost tools, including Primavera & SAP. Other skills and experience required include:

 

  • Membership of RICS, the APM or an equivalent qualification. In addition to these, the following are preferred foundation qualifications:
  • A Project Management foundation qualification as recognised by RICS, ICE, IMechE or IEE.
  • A Project Management process qualification - Prince 2 Practitioner.
  • Primavera P6 user capability to a super-user / advanced level
  • Significant experience in providing both near term & medium-term project cash-flow forecasts (12 month rolling).
  • Ability to shape & provide bespoke reports from Primavera.
  • Knowledge & significant experience in month & annual status reporting on large multi-disciplined programmes of work.
  • A background in a commercial role (Quantity Surveying etc.) is preferred, as well as experience in delivering complex multi-stakeholder projects & programmes of work to tight regulatory deadlines.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role and operational environment.
