Have a stroll around our office:

Who is MAGO?:

Part of Manchester Airport Group (the largest airport group in the country), MAGO is our Digital Tech business; utilising advanced data Insights, digital platforms, and new and emerging technologies, it is an ever-evolving engine house of ideas and innovation. Having recently merged with MAGUSA, our US business based out of Chicago, we now offer a comprehensive range of physical and digital products to our large network of airport clients both in the US and across the world. With support from our large and technically comprehensive in-house Tech/ Trading/ Marketing/ Data/ Commercial and Support Teams etc MAGO’s focus is to create new and exciting digital and physical B2B and B2C products for customers at every step of the customer journey.

The Role:

We take the stance that product teams should build, understand, and maintain their own infrastructure. In this context you will be a key problem-solving resource, as the product engineering teams leverage your expertise of AWS when they plan and develop new products for our three MAG airports and SaaS products for our international client airports alike. As our Senior SRE, your focus will not be doing work on the teams' behalf, but instead to develop best practice and standard solutions, and to provide guidance to the teams accordingly.

Your primary tools will be Go, CloudFormation, and PowerShell. Infrastructure development at MAGO follows the same principles and tooling as product engineering, including: version control, automated testing, CI, and software patterns. You will often be a shaper and early adopter of new processes and tooling.

MAGO is all-in on AWS, which we leverage to its fullest extent on top of core technologies like EC2. We layer CloudFront, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda, SQS, Kinesis to optimize for low maintenance overhead, low time to market, scalability, and allow our teams to focus their efforts on product excellence. As of mid-2021, our SaaS products for airports operate on three continents

We know that you’ve probably spent 2020/1 working from home quite happily and productively, and we understand that (whilst we have amazing modern offices at Manchester Airport) the need to come into an office is, well, a bit old fashioned. Therefore, we welcome UK based candidates to apply who wish to work remotely.

If you have the following experience, then we welcome your application:

  • In-depth experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Demonstrated software engineering skills. Producing robust scripts and software is central to the role.
  • Some experience with Linux servers.
  • You are not afraid to dig, curl, and grep your way through a problem.
  • You face problems of unknown origin with systematic confidence and self-directed learning.

Preferable Experience:

  • Experience with Bash, CloudFormation, Go, and PowerShell, which will be your primary tools.
  • Experience with .NET Core
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tooling (e.g. CloudFormation, Terraform, Packer).
  • Experience with Cyber Security tooling and controls (DevSecOps).
  • Experience with relational database administration (e.g. SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with Continuous Integration tooling (e.g. CircleCI, Jenkins, CodeBuild).
  • Experience with containerisation and container orchestration (e.g. Docker, Rkt, Podman, ECS, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with common integration patterns in enterprise software (message queues, APIs, repositories, caching).

What are we offering?

Our platform, working practices, technology stack, well... everything, is constantly evolving; We have re-defined our ways of working since the Covid-19 lock down to reflect new working ‘norms’, and aim to continue being a flexibility and adaptable business. We're offering the ability to work with autonomy in a company that doesn't "do" agile, but rather "is" agile.

  • A company that is inclusive and tolerant to all
  • Fully Remote or Flexible working option (your choice!)
  • A salary reflective of the current market
  • 11% company contribution pension
  • 15% bonus
  • Onsite gym
  • Free parking and significantly subsidised public transport
  • Based above a train/ tram/ bus station for an easy commute
  • Discounts on company products including holiday parking
  • 25 days Holiday entitlement (plus the ability to buy 10 more days)
  • Great work culture within a focused and professional/ friendly Tech Team
