Job Purpose

 

 

 

Manchester Airports Group (M.A.G) is the largest UK-owned airport operator, serving around 52 million passengers every year through its ownership and operation of Manchester, London Stansted, East Midlands and Bournemouth airports.

 

We have recently begun a digital transformation journey and have established MAG-O (Mag Online) as a separate disruptor business. This new division will operate as a tech start-up experimenting and rapidly deliver new digital experiences for our customers. Based in a contemporary environment near to Manchester airport, MAG-O is all about ‘the art of what is possible’. The MAG-O business will drive multi-platform digital transformation by developing new omni-channel retail and reservation lines of business across our 4 airports.

 

The role is critical to the overall success of the development team, with opportunities to influence standards, principles and ways of working. The role holder must be confident and experienced in working with non-technical business stakeholders to elaborate their vision into clear business requirement user stories, and to prioritise those to allow incremental delivery, both for defined Projects and for multiple BAU work streams.  The role is part of the Project Delivery team and the role holder will work with the development team on defined projects to identify solution definitions and to size the work, leading to a sprint delivery forecast.  All outputs are expected to be to a high quality, following industry best practice.

 

The role holder will work directly with the development team in a Scrum Master capacity to deliver work within sprints and via a Kanban model for BAU work.  Managing and leading the various scrum ceremonies and driving best practice and continuous improvement in these areas is integral to this role.

 

 

 

Principal Accountabilities

 

 

 

  • Project Lead  throughout the project life cycle and effectively interact with multiple stakeholders (Third-party partners, Product Managers, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Operations, Legal/Compliance and Technology teams
  • Transform customer and client (airports) needs into well-defined use cases that stakeholders can fully understand and leverage to create design requirements
  • Challenge and drive key stakeholders across MAG-O to make decisions on priorities
  • Facilitate decision-making, issue resolution and consensus among cross-functional project teams with full understanding of time/cost/scope impacts
  • Manage relationships with internal partners to ensure alignment on project objectives, critical tasks, milestones and dependencies. 
  • Be accountable for your delivery ensuring the right balance between cost, time & quality are achieved in line with business plan assumptions, remove barriers where required.
  • Introduce new tools and/or methodology/frameworks where required.
  • Lead and develop the project delivery teams, coaching and developing high performance.
  • Promote use of agile techniques across the MAGO and broader MAG community
  • Manage project reporting cycle, working with project team to drive high quality agile reporting in timely manner

  • Organise the project team to deliver the agreed benefits in the business plan for their project / product team whilst also supporting BAU and ad hoc small change.
  • Work to appropriate   governance - ways of working, measurement and reporting for your delivery team.
  • Negotiate and manage project dependencies across the wider MAG business, plus key partners and suppliers.
  • Control Supply and Demand to ensure effort is aligned to the business plan.

 

 

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

 

 

 

Essential

  • Working in an Agile delivery lifecycle (Scrum/Kanban)
  • Demonstrable track record of managing software delivery in an online business
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Keen appetite for self-development and continuous improvement

 

 

Desirable

  • Industry experience in delivering customer facing solutions across mobile / web / ecommerce platforms
  • Analytical approach to problem solving combined with commercial awareness
  • Experience of managing onsite, remote teams and external suppliers
  • Experience working with Product Owners, architects and designers to shape and initiate the pipeline of work
